Its All About the Journaling at Lasting Memories!

This week's challenge at Lasting Memories is all about the journaling. whether you are always sure to tell a fabulous story, or if you're like me and just cover the "who, what, and when"...this is a great challenge! It's your chance to pull out some lovely pictures and really tell a story, share the meaning behind them, or explain just how you feel when you look at the photos. Here's my take on the challenge:

I was excited to finally get this picture scrapped; I've been hanging on to it for a while, and even had the journaling all written out on a scrap of paper since June of 2009! Like I said, I generally just do the "who, what, when". But there are some cases when the "why" needs to be told. When this happens, I always make sure to get it down on paper as soon as I can, ensuring the feelings and the moments are fresh in my mind. I'll stash it away in my idea binder until I'm ready to scrap it, but at least I know what I need to say is patiently waiting for me.

Also in most case I handwrite my journaling, as I think it's one of those things that will be soooo valuable to future generations- seeing their great-grandmother's handwriting will hopefully be special to some future "Call Girls". However, in situations like this when I have a lot to say, I turn to the computer and type it out. This way I can cover plenty of story in a much smaller space than had I used my sharpie!

Here's what I had to say on this layout about my son's love for "High School Musical":

Wesley, ever since HSM #1 came out, you have been in love. It was your first time really showing interest in a trend. You would sing, “What time is it, it’s party time” over and over again. I had NO IDEA what it was all about until I talked to Auntie Sarah- this HSM thing was all the rage!!

Since then you have received the DVD for xmas from Mammy (“are you SURE he really wants this?” she asked), we watched the premier of HSM #2 on Disney, got a Troy doll from Auntie Sarah for your birthday and saw HSM #3 in the theater.

It’s been 3 years since it all started. You’re finishing 2nd grade, 8 years old and still in love. Today at the book fair, you chose to spend your money on a HSM poster- how cute. But you must have realized that it’s not a “typical” choice for boys your age as you told the kids after school it was a poster of a Lamborghini. I hope you’re able to stay true to who you are, have your own interests no matter what the norm is and be proud of your choices!!

I hope you'll have a chance to share your story with us at Lasting Memories this week! =) T

  3. Such a cute layout and great story behind it! If I know that I'm going to want to journal when I scrap certain pictures. I type up a quick word document and title it the same as the picturers. Its usually a really rough draft of what I end up journaling but at least it's a little reminder for me when I finally get to those pics! Oh and I love what you did with the eyelets :) Thanks for joining in the fun at Scrapbookers Anonymous!!!

  8. Ths is such a cool LO and story behind it. I too have an 11 year old that likes certain things that aren't the "norm" for his age, but I always make him feel secure about his choices and to be true to himself. TFS

  13. What a great layout and story!! I love this!

I try and do most of my journaling in handwriting as well, for the exact same reason as you! I love looking at my b-ay cards etc from my grandparents who have passed. It's something sentimental that I'll always have and that's what I want to leave in my albums as well.
